I had initially backed Salas's account as trustworthy, but quite some time back came across contrary accounts as briefly cited in above Skeptoid issue.
So sometimes the skeptics/debunkers are correct that faulty memories can wildly embellish incidents to give an overall false narrative.

There are however numerous other, reliable, accounts of UFOs taking an (imo whimsical/mischievous not 'noble') interest in nuke sites of various kinds:

Despite Hastings doggedly backing Salas's account at Malmstrom, there's more than plenty else covered there that can be confirmed as to accuracy.

PS - I wrote way-back while still at SF perennial UFO thread, about JR's cynical resorting to wedge politics. Not at all surprising to see he continues that divide and conquer strategy up to the present. Exemplified p 344 #6878 there. What a pos. But limp-wristed types will overlook and forgive. Not me!
