Humblebundle had a deal on some "Off the grid" ebooks, one of them was all about "Tiny Homes".

Some interesting ideas and concepts for those that want to build their own, one of the points was actually about recycling. i.e. When someone is renovating and old house, they might rip out some old window or door frames or have materials left over. Tiny homes are what you can use those leftovers on. You could also pick up some old bits and pieces from auction sites and junk stores.

I'd install a handrail on those stairs. I'm old enough to need help like that.

as a child we use to occasionally go to the demolition warehouse where they sold things like parts of demolished houses, doors windows all sorts. was a lot cheaper than buying new.

we also use to on occasion go to the rubbish dump to look for things
where people would dump things that still worked.

mostly for building supplies
house and fence building and if your really lucky you might find an electronic appliance that someones has dumped and it still works.
i go to a place called pick a part for car 0parts to replace on my car
i got a drivers seat and electric window motors and installed them myself
saved myself hundreds of dollars
