Apparently the whole Fraser Valley is waterlogged with some areas flat out under water. The Fraser Valley is Vancouver's primary exurban area and lots of people live out there so the impact is huge.

The Trans-Canada highway is severed as are rail lines headed east. Some of the wash-outs and landslides will require major reconstruction before road and rail links can be restored.

It's going to impact all of Canada less directly since the Port of Vancouver is Canada's largest port. It's the country's doorway to Asia and a big proportion of Canada's imports enter through there. As of Tuesday night there were reportedly 32 ships at anchor in Vancouver harbour because they can't unload. (You think you have supply chain problems now...)

Further east, landslides in the mountains have cut multiple roads, stranded motorists on highways and more or less cut off some communities without electricity as temperatures fall below freezing. The Royal Canadian Air Force is responding with helicopter rescues and residents of several small communities have been advised to evacuate to Kelowna and Kamloops, the large towns in south central BC.

Gas pipelines from Alberta supplying the Vancouver area with gasoline and natural gas have been severed.

British Columbia has declared a state of emergency.

It's shaping up to be a big-time disaster for Canada.

RCAF photos of helicopters rescuing people trapped in the mountains by landslides. The helicopters are staging out of a town called Agassiz, by Harrison lake at the far end of the Fraser Valley maybe 50 miles east of Vancouver. They are performing their rescues in the mountains east of there, around towns like Hope and Merritt. It looks like pretty hairy flying for the helicopter pilots with all the trees, signs and other obstructions that could snag a rotor blade.

Speaking of rescues, the cows standing in the water in the first post are reported have been rescued and are safe.

Can't have shipping shortages of goods perpetually plaguing North America. Maybe start digging canals to inland cities so that they can already serve as the new, future sea-ports -- well ahead of time. Just write the existing West and East coasts off as goners in that department. Though those cities can still hang around as new acquisitions to Aquaman's kingdom (the new, multiple instantiations of Atlantis).

How come?…..When the mountain comes to where you’ve built a home it is global warming but if that home is built where an active volcano spills hot lava then it’s just plain stupid.
