INTRO: Does Captain Kirk die when he goes through the transporter? This question has kept me up at night for decades. I’m not kidding. And I still don’t have an answer. So this video isn’t going to answer the question, but I will explain why it’s more difficult than you may think. Not having watched the video, I'd say Captain Kirk doesn't die because the pattern of energy making up his consciousness persists thru the whole process. This is also an argument against extinctivism, that we cease to exist when we die. The information that composed us still exists after death. We are that energy structure. Hence no death.
You can reduce the amount of information required by having a generic body at the receiving end and just Kirkifying it a bit using the received information. Likewise with the brain - all it needs to know is who it is and what its supposed to be doing.
