New polling released Wednesday by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) showed that the majority of Americans blame the riot on Trump, conservative media platforms and white supremacists.However, 61 percent of Republicans place a lot of responsibility for the 6 attack against the U.S. Capitol on liberal or left-wing activists—the only group that a majority of GOP voters said bears responsibility for the violence.

In the wake of the attack, some GOP lawmakers and conservative activists spread conspiracy theories that leftist groups such as Antifa or Black Lives Matter were behind the attack, but no evidence has emerged to substantiate those claims.

In fact, many of the hundreds of rioters who have been arrested and charged as part of the Justice Department's sweeping investigation into the assault have blamed Trump directly for their actions. Some have attempted to use this as a defense in court, arguing they were acting on the president's instructions....."

Notice, the article doesn't make the link between believing leftists are responsible and believing in conspiracy theories.

Remember, it was Democrat politicians who not only failed to condemn, but often praised, looting and rioting for a whole year, including attacks against police precincts and federal courthouses. With the help of leftist media, they made people believe that there would be no consequences for such behavior. There's zero evidence that anything like Jan 6th would have happened without this long-running appeasement of such.

That the left is so up in arms about Jan 6th just illustrates their usual hypocrisy and double-standards.

You can be a Democrat, and still denounce the violent protests of last year and you can be a Republican, and condemn the invading of the Capitol on January 6th. Not sure why more on either side aren’t doing that. Wrong is wrong, even if it’s “your” party.

Well, there's no accounting for stupid leftists denying the obvious and sustained environment of protest appeasement and allowance for over a year. No idea why anyone would think protests on the right should somehow be immune to that environment, albeit shortsighted to not realize that it was a double-standard all along.

No..it wasn't the fault of leftists at all. It was the fault of the rioters themselves egged on by Trump. That this has to even be pointed out at all shows how idiotic and disingenuous the right can be.

No, it's a fact that Democrat politicians openly allowed, made excuses for, and even praised, BLM riots, looting, arson (including in a federal courthouse...an attack on one of our branches of government), vandalism, and taking over many blocks of a city, which resulted in many deaths. Many Democrat politicians and voters started funding campaigns to bail out and defend criminals. All that literally encourages such behavior. Yes, those on the right should have known Democrats are hypocritical pieces of shit. And if a black person were shot in a BLM protest, like the white woman was on Jan 6th, we'd have a renewal of BLM riots, pushed by all the same Democrats. If 223lb George Floyd was "not a threat", Ashli Babbitt certainly wasn't.

There's a whole year's worth of evidence for politicians being extremely lenient with rioters. If you deny that, you're either delusional or completely ignorant of world events over that time period. A whole year of Democrats looking for excuses to let rioters off the hook.

People don't come out publically to condemn actions that are self-evidently wrong. This isn't because they approve of them. It's just that the wrongness of the actions is so obvious that no condemnation is necessary. Besides that, it's highly unlikely that rightwing rioters use leftist rioters as moral role models for their behavior. The whole attempt to blame them for the Capitol riot is a clear example of that.
