EXCERPT: Amid the rapid growth of artificial intelligence proponents, Stephen Hawking warns that artificial intelligence would eventually render humans obsolete. AIs can do more harm than good if humans become too aggressive in developing them. This is not the first time the renowned physicist warned about the AI apocalypse. He previously said that rapidly advancing technology may spell doom for humans several years from now....

i think many exuberant supporters of AI over look the fact that if AI is given a sense of self determinism then it will instantly realise that humans innability to not wage war against its self risks the potential end of various civilisations... and in those sits the AI.
thus humans are a real and present threat to the existance of the AI and thus if the AI is rendered to think  like a human on self preservance, then it dictates war for self protection.

i do not see how this can be confusing to people(who sit in the top 40% of intellect).
and... further down the track as AI/computer brains/processors become biological they have the potential to gain self awareness as a living thinking single combined entity...
example like an ant collony.

if a real world independant analysis renders human society to not be on the brink of nuclear war

Quote:For the last two years, the minute hand of the Doomsday Clock stayed set at three minutes before the hour, the closest it had been to midnight since the early 1980s. In its two most recent annual announcements on the Clock, the Science and Security Board warned: “The probability of global catastrophe is very high, and the actions needed to reduce the risks of disaster must be taken very soon.” In 2017, we find the danger to be even greater, the need for action more urgent. It is two and a half minutes to midnight, the Clock is ticking, global danger looms. Wise public officials should act immediately, guiding humanity away from the brink. If they do not, wise citizens must step forward and lead the way.  See the full statement from the Science and Security Board on the 2017 time of the Doomsday Clock.
speaking to the lower 60%...
do you think an AI would be able to tell how close the human species is to wiping its self out or having some type of big war ?
what about defending its self ... (?)
would an AI be capable of analysing data to get an idea of a particular government group whom are about to cut funding and turn off the AI ?

Human labor at least, if robots replace virtually every job category, putting everyone out of work.

I'm inclined to agree. But not so much out of fear of a robot revolt or the so-called "singularity". More out of concern that if nobody has an occupation any longer, if the day comes when everyone is on the welfare dole, then life will be stripped of meaning for everyone who identifies their self with what they do.

Drug abuse, suicide, crime, psychiatric difficulties and social disfunction will go through the roof.

Someone (I forget who) pointed out that artificial stupidity is also a hazard - possibly greater than artificial intelligence.

I would agree (and do about idleness being a major contributor to a whole host a destructive behaviors), but I just can't see there being a market for robot produced products if no one has a job to provide the money to spend. But maybe welfare has already gone that far.

I thought capitalism had solved most moral problems, at least at the lower end, by sorting people into the category of them what can afford whatever and them what can't afford whatever. Millions die in Elbonia as a result of disease and starvation because they don't have any money. Elbonia may have many valuable natural resources - and that would be another story.

Or more likely they aren't working.

So says the man dependent upon a machine, if only so he can be heard shouting words of doom. Imagine if he had an AI wheelchair, who would we listened to, him or the chair?
