UFOs pose real danger, DOD says, but aliens aren’t to blame — probably
https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/penta...-probably/

INTRO: Defense Department officials on Tuesday confirmed that unidentified flying objects are real and pose a potential serious threat to the country. However, they aren’t panicking about aliens invading America anytime soon.

That’s because military officials believe that nearly all of the unexplained events could be explained with more research and observation. To do that, they need military members to be more open to reporting the mystery objects without fear of being laughed off as science fiction conspiracy theorists... (MORE - details)

INTRO: The Pentagon Tuesday showcased declassified photos and video of UFOs to Congress – including a flying object without a "specific" explanation" – as lawmakers pressed military officials on the mysterious sightings.

In one brief and shaky video, a small object appeared to zip past a military pilot. In a separate video and a similar photo taken at a different time, glowing triangles are seeing in the night sky. The visuals were shown during testimony from Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence Scott Bray and Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security Ronald Moultrie.

Bray, as he presented the images and videos, said the video and photo of the glowing triangles remained unresolved for some time, but was eventually identified as unmanned aerial vehicles. But he said the military does not know what the object in the first video could be.

The Department of Defense showcased images of unidentified flying objects during a hearing on May 17, 2022. Pentagon officials said some objects that appeared in the shape of triangles were actually unmanned aerial vehicles. They appeared that way because they were observed through night-vision goggles, officials said.

"I do not have an explanation for what this specific object is," Bray said in an exchange with Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.

Bray continued to emphasize that many UAP reports have a "limited amount of high quality data and reporting" which "hampers the ability to draw firm conclusions about the nature and intent of UAP."

Bray also said Tuesday that there have been at least 11 "near misses" between U.S. military aircraft and UAP. He also said the U.S. military hasn't tried to communicate with UAP, including the unexplained object in the video shown earlier in the hearing which "may or may not be in controlled flight."

The presentation happened in a House Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Counterproliferation Subcommittee Tuesday. It was the first congressional UFO hearing in a generation... (MORE - details)

"A database of reports of UFOs now includes about 400 incidents, up from 143 assessed in a report released about a year ago, a Navy intelligence official told lawmakers at a congressional hearing on Tuesday....

...Many of the latest entries do not have sensor data — they're from people coming forward with older stories that they chose not to report at the time, Bray said. That's evidence that the military's drive to destigmatize such reports is working, he added.

"Navy and air force crews now have step-by-step procedures for reporting UAPs on their kneeboard, in the cockpit," Bray said.

It's an important effort, said Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., who noted that skepticism around UFOs likely has led pilots to avoid making the reports, or getting laughed at when they did..."

Reflections On the First Congressional Hearing on Unidentified Aerial Objects in Half a Century
https://thedebrief.org/reflections-on-th...a-century/

EXCERPT (Avi Loeb): . . . Obviously, the two witnesses in the congressional hearing were concerned with UAP as a threat to national security. Their job definition is twofold: to protect the safety of our military personnel and the security of our Nation. From their perspective, reports by military staff members are of primary importance for the first task, and data from military training or patrol sites are linked to the second objective. They need to know what the vast majority of UAP are, and for that purpose they must attend to data of compromised quality such as the blurry videos shared during the hearing.

However, the task for scientists is complementary to that. They do not need to explain most of the reports. Even if only one object is of extraterrestrial technological origin among the clutter of many others that are human-made, it would represent the most consequential discovery in human history. Its significance would resemble a first visit to the kindergarten when we realize that there is a smarter kid on the block. To figure this out, scientists must have access to the highest quality data, such as a high-resolution image of an object showing a label “Made on an Exo-Planet”, or a maneuver at a fraction of the speed of light or a set of buttons that demonstrate technical specifications of a futuristic “iPhone 100”.

Moreover, scientists are concerned with all possible geographical locations irrespective of whether they host military assets or national facilities. Extraterrestrial equipment might not adhere to national borders in much the same way that a biker navigating down the sidewalk does not care which of the possible pavement bricks is occupied by a small colony of ants.

For the above reasons, the congressional hearing could not have served science. It is the complementary duty of scientists to collect new data of higher quality than that obtained anecdotally by military personnel. With this in mind, the Galileo Project that I lead will assemble its first telescope system on the roof of the Harvard College Observatory in the coming weeks... (MORE - missing details)

This is good news in that at least the topic of UAP’s isn’t considered taboo by those in government, and we can only hope academia isn’t far behind. If we can have honest discussions about UAP’s without feeling the need to always bring space aliens into the conversations, that’s progress. I’m open to the idea that we’re not alone in the universe but I’m skeptical that intelligent life is “visiting us.”

What a merry-go-round. The only real difference between observations/responses now and those well cataloged from the late 1940s, is the passage of decades of time in between.

Endless deja vu. Guaranteed to continue that way indefinitely, thanks to casting it all as a three main options only situation - misidentified mundane, foreign/domestic 'leapfrog tech', or, remotely, 'aliens'. Leaving out a fourth option that imo far better fits the mass of accumulated data - supernatural, or paranormal, if that term eases things a bit. [Naturally this refers to the variously estimated as anywhere from 5% to ~ 30% residue not accounted for as misidentification/hoax/hallucination etc.]

And the real driver for renewed military interest is the MIC prospect of an even larger defense budget to cope with the 'potential threat to national security' actual UAPs may pose. Sure. Just ignore that huge record of similar incidents occurring in an era when foreign adversary(s) 'leapfrog tech' had no chance of explaining the 'threats' back then.

One potential for a UAP is a tracking drone that attempts to follow a jet in formation. The reason for following is the attempt to either tail it to maintain a position which it can then broadcast (Specifically when tailing stealth planes) or for following the plane back to it's base of operations at which point it could become a first strike potential. (A concern for carriers)

As you can see there is a very real threat as to what they could well be which unfortunately is more realistic than beings from another world or space ghosts.

The one example that I actually first identified as foreign drones not 'aliens' related to the 'flashing triangles' or 'bokeh' artifacts that were in fact the lights from Chinese coptor drones. A very rare 'normal' resolution of something run with by the networks well after the correct identification had been made.

Take a good look at the reported characteristics of completely non-mundane UFO incidents back in the 1940s and 1950s, and one might as well be describing current 'worrying incursions into US airspace'. Blah blah blah.
I'll go with 'space ghosts' as you and James R and sycophants over at SF like to disparagingly refer to encounters that defy any high tech explanation. Then as now.

Imagine if this hearing took place a 2-3 thousand years ago. What would they conclude?

https://www.grunge.com/226445/the-crazy-...sightings/

Our present day tech seems to have pushed any divine source out. Doubt if enemy technology was even mentioned. All in all doesn’t appear as if much has changed, we’re still mystified.

The first article is a fascinating but yes-or-no-or-maybe style brief ancient-to-modern-times purview of 'signs in the sky' accounts.
The next article below that encapsulates my own repeated assertion that 'actual' UFOs and Poltergeist and similar all have a common general origin and there is in fact often much overlap.
My goto remains:
The Strange Case of Dr. X  UFOs and 'Miracle' Healings - Think Anomalous.html
https://www.thinkanomalous.com/drx-ufo.html
(your AV may flag the site as 'potentially harmful' but that seems to be connected to supposed ideological 'danger' not computer malware)

A link within to the YouTube account that avoids any anti-malware misplaced 'warning messages':

Details missing from above account (https can be substituted for http but messes the presentation somewhat):

The greater world beyond what we can directly perceive must be a truly wondrous place. The ground rules there impossible for us to know.
I simply accept the abundance of reliable evidence that such a greater realm and inhabitants therein simply is.
Facile 'logical arguments' against the possibility of such by hardened skeptics notwithstanding.
